Can't speak for the other Germans here on the forum, but I never had the feeling our history is whitewashed during school. I mean it is not something you can easily whitewash.

We watched many movies about the holocaust like the Diary of Anne Frank and documentaries. Some schools take trips to concentration camps, if they are nearby. It is still hard to believe for me, but there are still people here, who would deny all of it. It is terrifying.

Sometimes people aren't human. Sometimes they're monsters. Even now in america there are people who deny that the Holocaust ever happened. It's disgusting, but there will always be stupid people. Best not to give those types much thought.

Those people will always exist I know. But you should still keep an eye on it. Some people in my country say, the holocaust is too big of a part of our education. I would deny that, it is a good thing to learn so much about it. Something like that must not happen again.

I'll just add my German voice to agree with Rundas. I never understood the assumption/joke that German people deny the Holocaust. Like Rundas said it was part of the lesson plan in three different grades starting pretty early on. And then each time you delve a little deeper into the material.

Yeah, the Second World War and the Holocaust are taught in school pretty excessively, as they should be. Actively expressing national pride is generally perceived with suspicion, too. Our 'German guilt' is pretty much part of our everyday life. I've never been to any of the concentration camps - I definitely want to visit one at some point, though.

We went to Dachau once as a school 'trip' and another time as part of our Firmvorbereitung (Catholic Confirmation). And then a couple of us visited again as adults a few years back. I don't know what words to use here because I don't want to make it about myself by calling it 'an experience'. But yeah, you should see if you can visit one some day.

4/ United States lawyers at Julian Assange’s extradition trial accepted the claim that the WikiLeaks founder was offered a presidential pardon in return for information that would resolve the “ongoing speculation about Russian involvement” in the hacking of Democratic National Committee emails. Assange’s lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, said in a witness statement that she was present at a meeting at the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2017 between Assange, then-Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Trump associate Charles Johnson. At the meeting, the pair allegedly told Assange that they could help grant him a presidential pardon in exchange for information that would “benefit President Trump politically.” Rohrabacher and Johnson said Trump knew about the meeting and approved offering Assange what they described as a “win-win” proposal. •  Day 1126: Trump offered to pardon Julian Assange if the WikiLeaks founder agreed to say Russia was not involved in hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee. Assange’s lawyer, Edward Fitzgerald, claimed at a court hearing in London that former Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher offered Assange the deal in 2017. Fitzgerald said he had a statement from another Assange lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, that shows “Mr. Rohrabacher going to see Mr. Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr. Assange … said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks.” White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham denied the allegation, saying Trump “barely knows Dana Rohrabacher” and has “never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject.” In Sept. 2017, Rohrabacher said that as part of the deal, Assange would have to hand over a computer drive or other data storage devices that would prove that Russia was not the source of the hacked emails. 5/ The Trump administration announced $13 billion in aid to Puerto Rico to help with rebuilding in the aftermath of 2017’s Hurricane Maria. 6/ The Trump administration will ban WeChat and TikTok from U.S. app stores starting Sunday night. Americans will be blocked from downloading the Chinese-owned apps due to concerns that they pose a threat to national security. I hope we at least see Democrats point out this is an election year to, if nothing else, point out the blatant hypocrisy that would be evident in confirming a justice right now. That was their excuse for delaying Merrick Garland.

Simple fact is there really isn't much the Democrats can actually do here if/when the GOP senators try to force a Conservative judge into the now vacant seat.
