Thread: It's that time again! The AP Awards.

Default It's that time again! The AP Awards.

Hello one and all. Once again we come to the winter event at Arlong Park; the winter solstice to the Character Tournament's summer. For the new and forgetful among us, the Arlong Park Awards commemorate the past year at Arlong Park. Its threads, its members, and the various-goings on.

We've decided to switch things up a bit this year. Instead of the old method of nomination by acclaim, we're switching to a straight nomination system. There are a small handful of categories where every qualifying candidate is automatically entered, but most of them are going to be capped at ten entries. In this, as in all things, ultimate decisions are reserved for the staff of the event and the forum. If we can't get ten, we'll use what we can get. If there's a situation where ten just obviously isn't enough or somebody is going to be horrendously ignored, we'll think about it.

We've also dropped a few categories that dragged things out last year and combined a few others. There have been a few other changes that have been made and which will be explained when the list of categories is provided.

Information about how to vote will be announced at a later date.

    Here's the rules so far:
    1. No circlejerkery. Point blank, we don't want to see a group of ten people deciding to nominate the members of that group every time and excluding other people in the process. If it becomes obvious that categories are being fixed in that fashion, we'll start tossing out some of the nominations and look for somebody else.
    2. In conjunction with that, one nomination per category per person. Keep an eye on the list of nominations so that you can use that nomination for somebody else. If you keep spamming nominations for somebody that is already on there, we're going to start ignoring you for wasting our time.
    3. The rule about buying votes from the Character Tournament also applies here.
    4. As should be obvious, the entire point of having a bolded Open Category section is that nominations are only being accepted for that open category. Nominations for categories that are not yet open will be ignored.
    5. People who have been permanently banned are automatically disqualified from winning an Award. Verily, this Commandment was handed down on an engraved tablet from on high by ocean in the distant past and is still honored to this day.
    6. In this, as in all Forum Events, the most important rule is the same: Be positive. If you don't agree with something, express it by voting. We're here to celebrate and not to bring people down.
    7. The Event Staff has the right to alter and add to this list of rules as becomes necessary.
    8. Have fun!

I like the last rule because I know I can do that easily. Here's hoping for some great and fun AP Awards!

    Question!

Does this apply to people who are CURRENTLY banned or people who were banned in the past but are active members as of now?

I realize this is a bit of a stupid question, and it sounds a little desperate all things considered...

I think bans that only lasted for half an hour and were the result of a mod overacting to a certain event might not count against your permanent record.

I would think its meant to apply to those that have earned permanent bans... and those that are now here on a second or fifth account to circumvent said ban.

But I'm not modding this thing, so I dunno.
To support Viz hosting all Jump manga for FREE and day of release, Arlong Park will now support the official release.

Official chapter discussions now start Sundays at Noon, EST.
Please do not post threads when scan sites release their version, and just discuss those releases in the spoiler thread.

Kind of assumed not, but I didn't want to cause any trouble.

Also, I didn't mean any beef with you or anyone when mentioning certain bannings.

Either way, I think there's a pretty clear line on who's okay and who's not. Kind of why I felt it was a bit of a dumb question.

If it was a temporary ban and the person has remained a member in good standing since then without having to be banned, I'm inclined to be lenient on that one and allow them to be nominated for an award. That person might have been a bit of a dumbass or happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that's not really being a troll. That's a mistake or, at the very least, an anomaly and it seems unnecessarily harsh to diaqualify them for something like that. Giving people a second chance is the Oda thing to do after all.

    So, here's the ruling:

A temporary ban isn't an automatic disqualification so long as a Mod doesn't object to it. If that person was temporarily banned and has been on probation since then, it's less likely that the nomination will stand.

If one of them contacts me and says why a name shouldn't be on there, off it goes.

Permaban is automatic disqualification for that account and all of its descendants. These are some of the nicest, most lenient Mods/Admins a forum could hope for and you have to be a world class jackass for them to go that far.

Does Best Chew Out have to be directed at members of the board, or can it just be directed people outside the forum? Also does it have to be one specific post or can it just be a group of people attacking member/person? Because I could think of a few comic artists or a governor of Tokyo that might deserve the chew out award.

So the ones who got banned because of the RA-banner fiasco can be nominated. Yay.

The point is that it is less about banning and more about whether or not that person is a troll, which is the exact sort of person we don't want to reward. That's why there isn't a Worst Troll Award either since they don't even deserve that much recognition. If there's a reasonable argument to make that the temporary ban was a total anomaly in that person's history, then I don't see any reason for them to be punished again for that. They've served their time so to speak.

Ugh! Oh no! I'm being forced to vote for him on something! Clearly it's not like he earned my vote for contributions of some sort to the community! No one would ever vote for people touched by the scarlet B!

I wanted to vote for a senior member who posted 5 time this year!

    THANK YOU!
At the risk of reopening old wounds, I remember the second time Snocone was banned and how I don't remember any of his friends (including myself) really taking the mod's side. From what I remember, he got temp banned for bringing up that particular mod's rather erratic behavior.
Also good to know that I can nominate someone based on talent and not on behavior.
A moot point, as the person I plan to nominate on best writer (unless the rules say best NEW writer) was never banned, but it's still nice.
EDIT: Since I'm already being purposely vague to give this guy some protection, I consider said incident bridge under the water. It's cool now, and he's not someone I consider an enemy, but still a bad basis for someone to be disqualified.
