Anyone under the age of 40 grew up never seeing Star Wars on the Big Screen. Aside from that brief 3 month window in 1997. Anyone under the age of 25 has never seen them on the big screen.

Not in a wide-rerelease anyway. Yeah there are niche specialty showings you can go to, but almost no one grows up seeing them in theatrical format.

Unless you're talking about the prequels and sequels, but those don't count.

    Spoiler:
I'm not really sure I get the point of Wonder Woman 1984. It just seems like a really weird story to tell.

I'm not really a fan of how the movie just seems to be "women must suffer." Diana reacts to a difficult situation as a child and is resourceful, securing her goal...but is then punished for her resourcefulness. As an adult, she gets to have her lover back but oopsies whoopsie, she has to give him up despite the fact that she wasn't in anyway neglecting her heroics. Meanwhile, Barbara is a nobody who get sexually harassed and borderline assaulted twice and then framed as an evil person who is being unreasonable once she get a little bit of power. In a media landscape where women have very little on-screen power, behind the scenes power and power in the general dynamics of society, it reads as incredibly callous to depict this kind of story. Selina Kyle in Batman Returns was a true story of a woman taking back her agency without really being the bad guy. Here Barbara is framed as unreasonable and made very unsympathetic...for what reason? What is Jenkins trying to say? The movie feels like it is knee-capping itself.

The depiction of the Cold War is so, so tired. Anti-Russian and Anti-Middle Eastern propaganda is eating Hollywood film alive and I'm beyond fed up with seeing this same bullshit shoved down our throats by the xenophobic war hawks in Hollywood and the Pentagon. Fuck them.

But hey, the colors during the mall scene were nice. Make more scenes like that!

Yeah, something just felt off about the whole movie. It was too long and probably had one too many plot threads going on. And while Pedro Pascal is a great actor, everything surrounding his character was kinda ridiculous.

Was this movie written by someone in the Trump administration? Women must suffer, latinos are violent, Muslims are corrupt and primitive people who are their own worst enemy.

Id argue this is the most reactionary Hollywood blockbuster since American Sniper.

I deadass forgot the Snyder movies as iconic conservative media while posting in the DC thread.

Yeah, wasn't a fan of this one either. Especially after the first one which I really liked. And for something with 1984 in the title, I counted maybe two 80s songs used? That doesn't really take or add anything but I just found that odd. It was mostly 80s as far as world events going on back then, not so much pop culture. And like previous posters mentioned, the tired old Cold War theme.

Keaton seems an odd move unless they're going down the Old Man Bruce road.

Wait, they're already backing out of Robert Pattinson?

God, what even is the DCEU anymore?

An exec (Hamada) was interviewed and the interviewer was later asked on Twitter a question based on that interview. It was about who the other Batman would be, outside of Reeve's Robert. He answered Keaton and people, as usual, ran with "Keaton gets his own film". It's a mix if rumors, the tweet being vague and the usual Twitter chaos.

The interviewer who made the Keaton tweet later clarified that Keaton will be in Flash's film and not his own film. The Reeves film is currently shooting in the UK. It's also Warner Media's fault for not being as transparent with their fans and it adds to their want to create narratives

Nope, they're just doing a multiverse where nothing matters anymore so they can do 7 different batman films at a time and its okay if they're all completely different tonally and don't connect. Like how the new R rated Joker film had no connection to any others. Or how you get past the tonal disconnect of Shazam being the same universe as BvS.

Shared universe hasn't exactly been working for them since they *started* with Synder, so standalones is what they're moving towards instead.

When Joker can make a billion dollars without being a big Marvel crossover, they decided they don't need to chase Avengers anymore.

It's such a weird turnaround for a company that used to be obsessed with avoiding so-called "brand confusion" to the extent that Young Justice couldn't coexist alongside Teen Titans and the constant fights over what characters the DCAU was allowed to use in Justice League Unlimited because of The Batman.

Don't forget the Arrowverse being unable to use heroes and villains from the DCEU...remember the whole Deathstroke debacle?

Yeah, that made no sense. Luckily, Slade was able to return and get multiple redeeming arcs in the show. Deadshot suffered from it the most and the character only appeared once more, before the actor was restricted to a version from a different Earth.

Snyder confirmed on his Vero account that they are releasing the film as a single 240+ minute long film and not cut into four separate episodes. Jesus Christ, that's going to be a pain to get through.

I legitimately cannot fathom what the fuck is going to happen in this film that we didn't already see in the Whedon cut.
