Wait what, Romance Dawn has actually been put into Anime?
Yeah, for the anime's 20th anniversary. They're actually adapting the second Romance Dawn pilot, the one that featuredblue-haired NamiAnn and Spiegal.
So next episode they’re going to go to leftover town, give the food away, and begin traveling to their next destination. Man this part of the arc moves slow. I don’t blame Oda, he shouldn’t have to account for the adaptation when creating the original, but man I wish they’d at least speed up page count when the chapters are slower.
The Romance Dawn speical was a pretty fun episode. It really show how much the series have change since the early pilot stories for the series.
That was a fun little break. I think the surest sign that this was something Oda wrote early in his career, aside from the obvious pastiche of elements that made it into early East Blue, was Luffy's characterization. He's still the same character at heart, but here he felt a little more snarky and roguish like he did early on in One Piece proper. Also, I was just joking about Ann being Nami with blue hair, then they went and actually made her Nami with blue hair, even tweaking her design a bit to be more Nami-ish. Odd that they didn't manage to slip all of the Straw Hats' voice actors outside of the obvious three in there as background pirates or something - just K. Yamaguchi (Balloon) and Nakai (the pirate that Ann swordfights and gets thrown overboard). Speaking of Balloon...Crunchyroll, what was that? It's supposed to be "roc" or "rukh".
Will watch tomorrow to celebrate 20th anniversary and whatever dub news we get, but I do think I would’ve preferred the yearly two hour special to this. Oh well. This will be fun, too, and allows more resources to stay focused on Wano.
I'm glad we'll be getting one of our main action animators back. He was the top creditted key animator on the episode and did the big climax and the sword fight.
He hadn't shown up on Wano and people were beginning to get a little worried. With this over, hopefully, they'll come back.
This special was pretty solid stuff, I only wish that the opening would've done something different, like what I've mentioned on the other Romance Dawn thread:
But other then that I have pretty much no complaints, this special was everything and more then it needed to be.
It was a very fun episode!
Kouhei Kureta did an excellent job at storyboarding and directing! Dynamic shots, interesting scenery, this episode was full of these.
This also explains Tomita's absence on the Wano arc thus far.
Overall very solid effort.
Monkey D. D. Ragon! So beastly he got two D's in his name!
