    3 minutes in.

This was just a week ago so I wouldn't think it was outdated info.

They might fit world building details in from later books that they have hindsight for, but that's not the same as combining books.
This Q and A with the showrunner

We’ve also got the first six episode titles (out of eight) and episode 5’s title is a Book Two chapter title.

Book and maybe TV Spoilers below

    Spoiler:
It looks like they’ve cut Caemlyn from the EotW, and that they go to Tar Valon instead, where they might heal Mat early then take the Way to Shienar from there. Siuan and Lisandre have been cast, and they’re book two characters. The thing that they’ve missed from Book One that will be added in later is certain to be meeting Elayne, since she’s not been cast yet as far as we know.

Yeah, that's like I said, reshuffling things for pacing and knowing with hindsight who is important and needs to show up earlier.

That sort of reshuffling makes sense. Still basically the plot of book 1 then, just moving around a particular set piece and batch of characters. That's a pacing call which makes sense given Elayne brings a TON of baggage and family members with her and wouldn't add much to just appear for 10 minutes in one episode and then not again till the next season. It's also one less big set piece location they need to worry about in season one.

But they're not, for instance, going to cover all of the Great Hunt in the second half of the season. Just one or two scenes from it.

They could just cut Elayne and her entire family from the whole series and I'd be kind of okay with that, honestly. Yeah they're major players but none of them really did much for me in the long run.

    Spoiler:
It might also make sense to spread out Rand's love interests. Instead of introducing two of them in season 1, then not getting to the third one until season 4 or 5, spread em out a bit. As awesome as that third character is, others having a multi-year head start could be rough for audiences to accept.

I took a break from reading for a bit, but I'm back to it

On chapter 5 of book 2, in the last chapter they just introduced like 10 Aes Sedai

Am I supposed to remember every character they introduce? It's a little overwhelming and I'm not sure how many characters are going to be important or reoccurring

No, especially with the Aes Sedai since there's a ton of them. Ditto with some other groups that will show up later. Prominent ones will get named over and over, you'll pick up on who actually matters out of sheer repetition.

There IS a glossary in the back if you ever need help, but with most the AS just knowing their color is enough once you have a handle on that system... and really mostly you just need to know Reds are the angry men hating ones, the others are all variants of healer/diplomat/researcher.

Okay thank you, I was getting worried that I wasn’t following along well enough

Also with Rand being the Dragon Reborn, Perrin having his wolf hive mind powers and the girls on there way to becoming full fledged Aes Sedai I really hope Matt’s attachment to that dagger gives him some sort of evil dark power to fight the dark one, fight evil with evil, instead of just being a hinderance and constantly needing to be watched

Lol kind of like the three men have powers based on the three sides of the moral spectrum, Rand is good, a hero reborn, Perrin is neutral as wolves are animals and just part of nature and Matt has the power of another different type of evil at least that’s how I see it

Matt will do Matt things later. It takes a couple books for him to come into his own because the dagger puts him at his worst for a while, but he does do his own very unique thing later.

As for the moral spectrum thing well... those farmboys end up going through a lot.

Matt is the best character in the books and I would argue the most important one aside from Rand.

Yeah, Mat was the character that ended up making the books worth reading when they were a real slog. I would read summaries of a lot of character's chapters, but his were always must-reads.

Still remember when we started getting Mat perspective chapters. Went from "oh, it's Mat..." to "holy shit" during
    Spoiler:
the night he escapes Tar Valon and the dices start rolling
    .

With the changes in the pacing, I wonder where that leaves Perrin and his "fire christening" so to say. Or do they mean to just drop the whole plotline with him and Children.

Mat and Lan made reading the whole series all worth it.

The most interesting thing about the show and the casting they're doing is making me realize my brain automatically whitewashed the characters for the most part. Like Nynaeve and Egwene are described in-book as being dark skinned and that never processed. Rand, being *light* skinned is the weirdo. And I never imagined Min as asian.

But, cool. That IS accurate to the world and how it should be. It'll be interesting if the show is any good for these versions of the characters to settle into my brain. It's actually getting me worked up and wanting to, despite my best judgement, go through the books again.

But as my physical copies are in storage on the opposite side of the continent, I'd just be listening to the audioboks again... and I don't know that I'm up for that particular 19d 5h 25m journey again. Not when I have NEW things to go over like Dresden Files or Malazan or Lightbringer or Murderbot....

Watched Dune the other day and kept getting Rand/Aiel storylines and Paul/Fremen storylines confused. The early part of that storyline in WoT is a pretty straight rip.

I'm all for the diverse casting in the WoT show, since the book tiptoes along the line of racial tropes in quite a few places (though it's better than quite a bit out there in that regard, not so much in gender).

I’d say Egwene’s the most important character next to Rand.

But yeah, Mat’s the best, although he takes until book three to get going and Sanderson really struggled with writing him.

    Spoiler:
Egwene was important and she did her part by winning her battle (and dying). But Mat was literally in charge of the entire war. He had to go toe to toe against the greatest tactical mind in history with a giant handicap and he somehow managed to beat him. He was the one who brought the pieces together and gave the heroes the opportunity to win their battles. Mat MVP

He did in the first book, but he took the criticism to heart and got a handle on him by the second, I think.

I hope the show finds more things for Perrin to do. He had that fun Two Rivers plotline early on and then had essentially nothing to do for the rest of the series.

The show will presumably cut THE SLOG part down and move some things around, and that should help a lot. If the show is successful enough to go to the end we're probably looking at 8 seasons or so rather than an impossible 15, and that'll make a difference.

The big issues with the books is some plots were ready for endgame after book 5 or so, but they had to sit around and wait for the other plots to run the distance. Perrin was a major victim of that. But that's the sort of thing a hindsight revision can easily fix.

Please cut out the entire Mat is raped by a Queen plot line and throw it into the sun.

Definitely could use recontextualizing, but Mat and Tuon are fun together and I'd hate to lose all of their combative dynamic.

Actually "Definitely needs a rework but I'd hate to lose X" is basically the tagline of the series.

I don't think TLC was talking about Tuon. But Tylin, the way, way, way worse relationship Matt had prior.
