Anyway, thanks Ubiq, that was really informative.

http://s6.invisionfree.com/depotdepot A temporary resolution to the almost immediate crash of the replacement forum.

The Wayback Machine had quite a few of the old Arlong Park mainpages saved. Who was "matt" though? I remember Aftershock and most of the others are still around, but that name doesn't ring a bell.
I'm pretty sure there was another site before the one you posted, but that may just have been the main site before there were any forums as Randy1031 said in his post.

I think matt may have been someone from K-F, but he didn't stick around too long. That's probably why you don't remember him. Honestly I'm not too sure my guess.

Yeah, I remember seeing an earlier forum posted some time before. I had started lurking on the forum after the first one and then finally joined in this current post-February 2005 one in August apparently.

If I recall Matt was one of the contributors to the old arlongpark.com site.

He went on to create Total One Piece, which was around for about a year I think. My recollection on it is pretty sketchy so I'm not sure exactly.

Well, again, that was simply the first one I posted on personally (roughly a week after Buccaneer joined and about a week before Cosmic and taboo showed up if I recall correctly); there probably was one before then, but you'd have to get some old geezer like e1n to comment on that.
    Complicating things since 2009.

Oh I know, I just remember going to a forum that was before the one you linked.

I myself didn't start posting till the replacement forum although not under this same username.

    O_o

I knew this place had history but...

this place goes WAAAY back. Like, before I was on the internet back. Makes me feel like a newb again just thinking about it...

But why not just create a history page? I recall this question being asked before, might make it a lot easier in the future to just compile all this into one page. Hearing that all the current admins were once normal users is also pretty cool.

Just some random thoughts the subject, I'll go back to lurking now.

Yes, I almost cried. It was very touching.

To add Randy's history from my side of view,

    First forum = http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://alp.psyprod.com (Jan 2004~Jul 2004)
I didn't know the forum's existance yet. I got to know Arlong Park when this forum crashed or something. During that time, I believe most of the forum members posted in the main site, where we had news releases with commenting system.

    IP address = http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://66.90.103.231 (Aug 2004~Feb 2005)
We were using IPB here. I believe some of the original forum members were chosen to be mods, including e1n, Seta Ginny, SuNa. I was just a regular forum member back then, who grabbed spoilers and full chapters along providing translation. Zio was promoted to be a mod after a while. I was offered to be one at the same time as Zio, but declined because I didn't want to do extra work. Though, eventually I became more active and it was just easy if I could organize the forum, so I asked RoboBlue and was given the job.

    ap.animemedia.org = http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://ap.animemedia.org (Feb 2005~Feb 2006)
We were still using IPB at first, but wanderer-zero decided that we should be using the "legal" version of the forum software (with IPB, I think we were using a trial version), so we moved to vB. We might have gotten some donation at this time to purchase the forum software, but I don't remember much.

    apforums.net = http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://apforums.net (Feb 2006~Now)
Admins (or whoever) decided that the forum should have its own domain name, and so we had it. We were stable for a while, but started to have some server problem; that was when we had white screen of doom. Some new registered users had problem receiving emails as well; that was when I stepped up as an admin to approve the new members manually. We eventually started to put a banner ad at the bottom of the forum, hoping to generate some income so we can buy server space at a better location.

Sometime on June 2006, I took over the forum from wanderer-zero, and repurchased the forum software as well as renewing its license and the domain name yearly after that. Though, even if I'm the one who is responsible to the forum, I still don't want/like to take the leadership, so as long as someone else (Randy seems to be doing good lately? - not sure) can do the job well, I'll go hide and support the forum from backside.

As for the main site, After Shock found it, but he disappeared sometime after Oct 2005. I remember before his disappearance, the site crashed couple of times. Then Jonas purchased .net and .org and then continued on the site with wiki format.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to add to what Ubiq put up earlier, oceanizer!
Edit: Wanderer-zero, do you remember who was the Head Administrator before you?

If I remember correctly, IPB at that time was switching from free software to a similar model as vBulletin. So I figured if we had to purchase software, might as well do it on something I had better knowledge of etc etc whatever whatever. We did infact ask for donations at that time, the only time we ever asked for donations if I recall.

The domain name came free when I tried putting the server at dreamhost(cause it's dirt cheap) but due to the amount of traffic, the forum was taking up too much cpu time on the virtual host so had to be moved to my dedicated server.

as for your question nanlit, the very first forum that oceanizer linked to, I have no idea who was the admin. However, starting with the IP address it was me.

Honestly, it should be roboblue answering these questions.

    Memooriees...

I started posting on the forum back in fall of '04. Funny how time flies.

btw, other things admin can do that mods can't...IP ban, activate memberships, change names.

It's not as bad as when I PMed RomanGod and asked him to tell some member to stop spamming XD

I don't know how I screwed that up.

I hope that you remember me

So did people want some sort of a History page on the site/forum?

Well, I would certainly like one. And other people seem to like the old archived pages and general history as well.

A history page seems like an interesting idea, imo.
