    Re: Star Wars Universe

So is this film just going to pretend that Kylo Ren didn't participate in the slaughter of billions of people or is it going to do something really stupid like have that be erased by time travel like...

    Re: Star Wars Universe

It appears that we've moved from quasi-remakes of the original films to rehashing Dark Empire.

I have mixed feelings about that. I love the series but I seriously doubt it's going to look anywhere near as good as it did without Lucas personally funding the episodes. Plus, for whatever else it...

If so, I really hope it's a mirror image where the first half is a CliffsNote version of the original trilogy and the second half focuses on Rey and Finn. Then every single worthwhile moment from...

    Re: Star Wars Universe

Rogue One took an entire film to do what the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars special did in one scene but still managed to do nowhere near as good of a job as that special.

If we toss out all of Rebels, then that scene can be redone with Clone Wars assets.

I liked Solo, sure, but it was hardly the best Star Wars film.

    Re: Star Wars Universe

If Disney wants to just go ahead and pretend nothing has happened in Star Wars since 2014, that'd be perfectly fine by me.

The Story films have reportedly been shelved for the time being.
The Rian Johnson trilogy is apparently still on. Sadly.

    Re: Star Wars Universe

That's true of most films in general these days; it annoys me how many films are deliberately made dingy looking and washed out in post.

    Re: Star Wars Universe

It's actually kind of amazing how Clone Wars and Rebels took such an inherently ludicrous idea and did so much with it that, in the end, he actually winds up with one of the more poignant death...

    Re: Star Wars Universe

I'd say TLJ played a pretty big role in this especially seeing as how it came between those two films.

A lot of people will blame competition and franchise fatigue but it was the only new wide...

    Re: Star Wars Universe

Solo feels the most like an actual Star Wars film of what Disney has done so far but still feels off at times. Pretty enjoyable for the most part.

    Re: Star Wars Universe

I don't understand why people give TFA flack for being a rehash of ANH but are perfectly fine with TLJ being a badly botched Cliff Notes version of ESB.

The film's reputation is also being buoyed by Prequel Derangement Syndrome where there are a lot of problems with the film that are handwaved away honestly just because people hate George Lucas so...

Or a grim reminder that just because you can take risks doesn't necessarily mean you should. Especially if you don't have the skill to actually pull it off.

    Re: Star Wars Universe

According to the production staff, 70% of the film was done by Ron Howard; it's not even really fair to him to call it reshoots at that point.

Star Wars is supposed to be escapist entertainment; if I want to watch a raging idiot manchild screw things up, I'll check the news.

There was a lot less money tied up in either of those films though even adjusted for inflation and a much different corporate mentality.

Plus again, they burned a lot of theater chains over this.

They'll have had to worked out a deal with Fox then since they hold the rights to the first film in perpetuity. They get the other films back in a few years.
