Normal Outfit

The costume that Luffy starts out with. It's a simple red vest with three yellow buttons. He has blue shorts with a white fuzzy rim around the bottom. Add on sandals and Shanks' straw hat, and this is the Luffy you're bound to see often throughout the series.

Early Times

As a kid, Luffy wore a white shirt with the word "ANCHOR" on it. Shanks also called him an anchor at that time for not being able to swim. He wore shorts and sandals that you're familiar with.

  • Grand Battle! 3 (PS2/GC)

Arlong Park

The original.

Loguetown

The original.

Whiskey Peak

The original.

Little Garden

The original, until Luffy got hit with Miss Goldenweek's paint which caused him to be influenced by its colors. Usopp managed to hit Luffy with a Flame Star to release him from the spell, which burned off his vest.

Drum Island

Wore a red winter coat with gloves over his original. That means his shorts and sandals are visible. He takes this off and ties it around Nami to secure her before climbing the Drum Rockies.

Later, since he lost his jacket while climbing the mountain, he ended up "borrowing" Nami's jacket. To tie the pirate flag back on the top of the castle, he ripped his sleeve.

Arabasta

The desert gear consisted of the original plus additional clothing to fight the heat. This is a long red coat with white ring patterns; it was as loose as something like a shawl. He also has a light blue cloth wrapped around his head for shade, but his Straw Hat is still visible.

He takes it off at the beginning of his fight with Crocodile, when they fought on the desert sands.

Near the end of the arc and saga, Luffy was wearing white "hospital" clothing with buttons. There was also a red sash wrapped around his stomach. This style is probably heavily influenced by the Arabastan culture.

Jaya

The original.

Skypiea

Opened red vest and original shorts/sandals. He also has a thin metal bracelet and a black wristband on his right arm. According to Oda, Luffy had this fashion sense because Sanji and Usopp (at the time, otherwise with Nami or Robin) were around. Apparently while they were changing into their "Skypiea" outfits, Luffy saw the wristband and thought it looked adventurous - that's when Sanji told him to put on the bracelet as well. What can we conclude from this? That whenever Luffy, Zoro, or Chopper change outfits, it's because the other crewmates were around.

After the encounter with the giant snake, his clothes became worn out from the stomach acid.

Davy Back Fight

The original, until the third round. He did get a yellow Foxy pin and wear it for a short amount of time, however.

The new one consists of a maroon version of his shorts and a shirtless top with a painting (I won't say tatoo) on his chest. More importantly, is an afro he wore under Usopp's influence. With additional boxing gear (the gloves and the wrapping around the feet) he fought the final round with Foxy!

The mark on his chest is teal/cyan and features a flaming skull.

Between DBF and Water 7

He wore his original gear against the battle with a Marine Vice Admiral. While recovering from the battle, he wore a plain red shirt. This is all we see, for it lasted about 2 panels.

Water 7

The original.

Enies Lobby

Red vest and black shorts with big visible pockets on the side, like the ones you'd find on cargo shorts. The sandals are the same.

Luffy probably changed into this after being in the rain for so long. His original was also in rough shape from the fiasco with Water 7 and CP9.

  • Unlimited Adventure (Wii)
  • Gear Spirit (DS)

Between Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark

After the exhausting battle at Enies Lobby, Luffy wore a white Galley-La muscle shirt. He returned to wearing the original shorts/sandals otherwise.

Settei

Thriller Bark

Opened orange vest, yellow shorts, and original sandals. A variant of his Skypiea one, without the extra accessories.

What's clever is that the decision of having the vest unbuttoned is for a certain part of the story, more specifically chapter 476, or for something more visual, 478. Sounds strange, but you'll see.

Movie 6

Orange "hoodie" and blue shorts torn up at the bottom. That means, the white that's on his original shorts are not present. As the movie progressed, the orange became a dirtier orange and opened from the front.

Movie 8

Same as Arabasta.

Movie 9

Not the exact same as Drum Island for the most part, in fact. The only difference is in his first jacket - he's got a bulkier red one now. More info when the movie premieres.

Unlimited Adventure

This costume features a brand new style for Luffy which combines his normal outfit with an "upgraded" look. His red top has a yellow rim and a black pattern. The costume also gives him black wristbands on both arms and a black belt for his shorts. Though his blue shorts gives us some familiarity with the original (if the red top wasn't enough), he's got an added mini-knapsack strapped on his left, and a separate (but smaller) pocket on his right. These pockets are much larger than the ones he had during Enies Lobby. Lastly, Luffy's outfit is not complete with his classic sandals and straw hat.
