The Moku Moku Fruit
The Smoke Fruit's Eater
Smoker should be well-known to most One Piece fans, those who read the online scanlations and Viz devotees alike. He is a Captain (Taisa) of the Marine corps, though his strength is far beyond that of Nezumi or Morgan. Assigned to the Loguetown base, Smoker retained a perfect record of allowing no pirate to escape... that is, before Luffy came along. Currently he is pursuing the Straw Hats along with his Sergeant Major, Tashigi.
The Smoke Fruit's Characteristics
- Class: Logia (Elemental)
- Eater: Smoker "the White Hunter" (Captain, Marines)
- Powers Introduced: Chapter 100
- General Descriptor: Creates and controls smoke, can turn into smoke at will
- Viz Name: Plume Plume
The Moku Moku Fruit was the first Logia fruit introduced to us, during the 100th chapter no less. As with all Logias it is greatly powerful, and with Smoker's mastery of it, it can be decisive against even strong opponents.
The power of smoke when used by Smoker is to coil and bind, as well as to allow for distance and group attacks. Another very useful ability is that of the power to dissolve into smoke at will. That means that most physical attacks without the presence of Seastone are all but useless.
The term "Moku Moku" comes from a variety of sources. Moku backwards is "Kumo," Japanese for cloud, and Moku on its own is a term for silence, I believe. Viz's translation of "Plume Plume" distorts things, as a plume is literally a very showy feather (according to my dictionary), but it can also be used as "a plume of smoke," or a formation of it. It's a real messy one, and the decision to make it Plume has caused a bit of disorder among some fans.
Attack Notes
- White Out
- A wide-distance smoke attack that ensnares many people at once; effective even against other Devil Fruit users.
- White Blow
- Fires off a fist through a plume of smoke; carries at least as much power as a normal punch?
