- Other Chapters: None
- Volumes: #10
- Victor: Usopp
The Build Up
Usopp had fought at the slope to defend his village, but this was his first one-on-one. His cowardess showed through in the early parts of the battle, where he constantly ran and eventually faked his own death; but his bravery also came to shine when he picked a fight in the first place and stood back up to confront Chew.
The Action
Usopp deals with some issues in a monologue, fires off a Kaen Boshi, and gets smacked in the face. Clear enough. Usopp declares that "it's all over" as Chew begins to kick him repeatedly, but he retaliates with an Usopp Hammer, followed by the deadly Usopp Rubberband! This gives him the time to flee and plan his strategy. That strategy is reflected by his hurling of a booze bottle and blasting its contents all over Chew with a Namari Boshi.
Infuriated, Chew launches his greatest Water Cannon, which blows a swath through the area and, interestingly enough, prompts Usopp to poke his head out from behind the trees! Chew next barrages Usopp with his Hundred-Shot Water Cannon, and as he curses Usopp announces to himself the fight is over. The tree he was hiding behind collapses, but indeed the fight is over. As Usopp says, "Grog burns!!"
Set ablaze by Usopp's Kaen Boshi, the Fishman is helpless but to seek water. Usopp counters with a flying Usopp Hammer. Another set of Usopp Hammers follow, but with an Usopp Rubberband thrown in for good measure as well. Usopp collapses, exclaiming that he actually beat a Fishman!
The Aftermath
This is the only fight with an Arlong officer that didn't take place in Arlong Park, so it didn't have much of an impact there other than eliminating the final officer. Only Arlong remained, and Usopp hurried to join the fight there. Unfortunately for him, Nami was already there and ready to declare her Independence Day. Usopp's main role in the fight ended up being commenting on Luffy's battle.
