Zoro's Swords

Zoro originally used a dual wielding two sword fighting technique, but after Kuina died and he inherited her sword, he switched to a three sword style, keeping the third in his mouth. By the time he reaches 19, he is known throught East Blue as a bounty hunter and a man to be feared for his sword techniques. Although he is young and admits he does not know the extent of the worlds swordsmen, he has posessed a number of swords throughout the manga. After two are broken in a fight against the worlds strongest swordsman, Mihawk, Zoro picks up a few more in Loguetown and simultaneously learns from Tashigi the value of the swords he posesses.

Wadou Ichimonji ("The Straight Line of Harmony")

Viz's Version: Wado Ichimonji / The Straight Road of Peace

Wadou Ichimonji is the sword that Kuina's father gives to Zoro when he was a child, and is also the sword that Zoro uses with his teeth. It seems that this sword and Zoro are inseparable; at a number of points in the manga, Zoro loses 2 of his 3 swords, but Wadou Ichimonji is always at his side. Tashigi, who is somewhat of a sword otaku, recognizes the sword immediately as one of the "21 oo wazemono", or 21 great edges (translation accurate?), and explains to Zoro that it along with 20 other blades are recognized around the world for their superiority and craftsmanship.

Sandai Kitetsu ("Third Generation Demon Splitter")

Viz's Version: Kitetsu III

Once there was a series of blades, the Kitetsu. Every one, from the Shodai Kitetsu (First, 12 Saijo-oo wazamono) to the Nidai Kitetsu (Second, 21 oo-wazamono) and the Sandai Kitetsu (Third, 40 wazamono), was a quality sword. Yet all of their owners ended up dying gruesome deaths.

Zoro finds Sandai Kitetsu at Ippon Matsu's weapons store, where it lay in a bargain bin as an apparent victim of Ippon Matsu's carelessness.

Since Tashigi is with him, she recognizes the blade, looks it up in her mini sword encyclopedia, and tells him that the blade is high quality -- Zoro adds, without hearing it from Ippon Matsu, that it is cursed. When asked he says that he merely could tell. Against Matsu's pleadings, Zoro hurls the blade up in the air and into the path of an arm, which ends with no injury as the sword curved around it before it struck. Ippon Matsu later awarded Sandai Kitetsu to Zoro free of charge with Yubashiri.

Zoro first tries out the sword at the Battle of Whiskey Peak, where he fights 100 bounty hunters of the Baroque Works. Zoro remarks that the sword is bloodthirsty and that it has a mind of its own, attacking enemies against his will. Zoro mentions this again in the Enies Lobby arc.

Yubashiri (Snow Run)

Viz's Version: Yubashiri (Snow Chaser)

The Yubashiri, a wazamono and a legendary blade, is the prized possession of Ippon Matsu's family. It has a black lacquered scabbard and a midareba blade (an irregular pattern). Matsu guarantees its sharpness to Zoro, and gives it to him free of charge after his display of swordsman's spirit with the Kitetsu. At the battle of Whiskey Peak, Zoro remarks that the sword is light and easy to control.
