Franky is the boss of Water Seven's "Franky Family," a bounty-hunting/ship-dismantling organization. He first appeared as an antagonist but now fights on the side of the Straw Hats. There's been much speculation that he's the next crewmember, but at this point nothing is certain.

Due to an unfortunate incident eight years ago Franky was forced to build himself into a battling cyborg, but that certainly was a turning point to his strength. But he was strong-willed even before the accident, and he remains such today, with the exception of being "super!!" now. As a general rule Franky is devoted to friendship and camaraderie, and in fact he gathered together the discarded Galley-La candidates to form the Franky Family. He's enthusiastic, charismatic, a little manic, but all heart, to sum him up.

Franky's Past

Franky wasn't always "Franky," but originally named "Cutty Flam." Abandoned by his parents when he was ten, Cutty Flam found a place with the shipwright Tom, a long-horned cowfish Fishman. He was found building cannons out of scrap, and for the next decade or two he would spend his time building warships called "Battle Franky". He was raised alongside Iceburg and with Cocoro and Yokozuna there too, until a judicial ship came for Tom's building of Gold Roger's ship. Tom maneuvered his way from an execution and built the Sea Express with help from his apprentices. That was 12 years ago, back before the Sea Train ran; before Spandam.

Eight years ago on one fine day, a clumsy oaf of a Government representative came calling for Tom and the blueprints to the Ancient Weapon Pluton, which he didn't receive. Therein lay the problem: So, Spandam's solution was to hijack Cutty Flam's Battle Franky ships to attack the judiciary. Asked by Spandam whether or not the attacking ships had been his, he declared that they weren't.

Tom decked him, to everyone's surprise, and said very proudly that a ship has no good or evil in it. A man must take pride in what he builds! He then assaulted the representative of the government, Spandam, disfiguring his face.

Then the Fishman shipwright, the greatest who had ever lived, put an end to the proceedings astutely, freeing Iceburg and Cutty Flam from any charges. He was taken into custody and sent on the Sea Train for Enies Lobby for punishment, but on the tracks appeared a lone figure carrying a bazooka and bearing a bloody weight: Cutty Flam. The boy opened fire, but as the train approached he attempted to hold back his mentor's captors with his own body. Tearfully as he was dashed aside, he declared his dream: To build a ship of dreams that could withstand any wave, any harm, and that could reach the world's end... like the ship Tom had built Gold Roger.

Discarding the name Cutty Flam, "Franky" rebuilt himself with cybernetics and returned to Water Seven, forming the Franky Family and going undercover. The fact that he'd said his name to certain conspirators, though, sealed his future in stone.
