Buggy the Clown (道化のバギー)

Don't call him Big Nose!! Buggy the Clown, a famous pirate in the East Blue, was Luffy's first serious foe. As such, he deserves some respect and lovin' in that right, were he not such a One Piece-y character in the first place. He's flashy, darn it, flashy! Don't you forget that -- dismissed!!

Preferring daggers to any other weapon, Buggy is definitely a force to be reckoned with (when he's serious), thanks to the Bara Bara Fruit. Being a splitting man, this is one clown who can do some real circus tricks! The Bara Bara's abilities are to divide its eater's body into segments as he wishes, which may be launched and controlled over a 200 Bara Bara radius (whatever that means) by the user's mind. That would be great, if Buggy had any to speak of. As-is, he's a so-so fighter, like I said, when he's not being a goof.

When you think of Buggy, think flashily! Everything about him, from his blue hair to his big red nose, to the gaudy trappings he wears, he radiates flashiness. And, in the original Japanese text, he likes inserting the word "flashy" (hade) into his speech. Though he seems evil -- and he is a villain, after all -- it's not hard to see Buggy as sort of an anti-Luffy: Someone who cares for his fellows, is stubborn, and even has an ability that is the opposite of Luffy's.

As a parting thought: Flashy.

Buggy's Past

Once upon a time on an unknown pirate ship, there were two interns: Buggy the Clown, and Shanks the Red-Haired. Where Buggy thirsted for treasure and wealth, Shanks, his polar opposite, yearned for adventure.

During an assault on an enemy ship one day, Buggy stumbled across a treasure map -- a vast treasure, lying underneath the ocean, was waiting for him! Unluckily for Buggy, though, the crew had also captured a Devil' Fruit in the attack, which Buggy heard from Shanks was worth millions. Buggy, being Buggy, devised a plot and pilfered the Fruit, but a chance encounter with Shanks forced it down his throat, cursing him for life.

Even more unluckily, Buggy's map fell to the ocean, and when he attempted to retrieve it, the Fruit's power kicked in and he would have drowned, were it not for Shanks' intervention. Ever since, Buggy's philosophy has changed. If he can't take the treasure UNDER the sea, he'll take all of it ON the sea!!
