Episode 75: Luffy Attacked by Magic! Colors Trap

Short Summary

Luffy smashes the pillar of Mr. 3's Candle Set, but it only brings the candles closer to Nami, Zoro, and Vivi so that the wax on them hardens quicker. Luffy attempts several more times to smash the pumpkin, but is blocked by Mr. 3. Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine chase Usopp out in the jungle as Luffy falls victim to Miss Goldenweek's Colors Trap, manipulating his emotions and causing him to lose his will to fight. As Usopp returns to the scene, he is horrified to see Luffy drinking tea with Miss Goldenweek.

In-Depth Summary

The episode begins with Zoro holding up his sword, saying that if he is going to be a statue, that is the pose he wants to be in. Vivi thinks how Nami and Zoro don't seem to be worried even though they are far from escaping their peril. Miss Goldenweek sets down her cup of tea and says that the Straw Hats seem quite relaxed. Mr. 3 watches as Vivi, Nami, and Zoro talk, and says how they don't even seem to consider him a threat anymore. Mr. 5 asks Mr. 3 to let him finish Luffy, but Mr. 3 says that Mr. 5's attacks had no effect on Luffy, so he obviously can't handle Luffy. He tells Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine to deal with the others while he takes on Luffy himself. Usopp sits on Carue's back, telling the agents to give up while they can. Carue then runs backward, and Usopp and Carue crouch in the bushes, waiting to attack. Mr. 3 uses Candle Lock on Luffy, binding Luffy's ankles so Luffy falls to the ground. Mr. 3 then uses another Candle Lock, but Luffy manages to jump out of the way. Luffy wraps his arm around a horn on Brogy's helmet, then swings around, using Gomu Gomu no Hammer to smash his legs into the Candle Service pillar. The great cub at the top falls toward Nami, Vivi, and Zoro, but just falls short of them. This attack also smashed the wax off of Luffy's ankles, freeing his legs. Luffy asks why Zoro, Nami, and Vivi didn't run, but they yell that their feet are still trapped in the wax.

Nami notices that her body is hardening faster, and that she can no longer move. Mr. 3 starts to laugh, since now that the top of the Candle Service has been lowered, the candles are closer to them and they will be encased in wax quicker. Mr. 3 uses Doru Doru Arts Harpoon, but Usopp fires a Gunpowder Star aimed right at Mr. 3. Mr. 5 leaps in the way and swallows Usopp's attack while Luffy jumps out of the way of Mr. 3's attack. Mr. 5 tells Usopp he is using cheap gunpowder. Vivi begs Luffy to hurry, so Luffy uses Gomu Gomu no Bazooka to try and smash the pumpkin shaped top of the pillar. However, Mr. 3 blocks Luffy's attack with Candle Wall. Mr. 3 then uses Candle Lock, encasing Luffy's arm, but Luffy laughs that he has a hammer now. He uses Gomu Gomu no Hammer, but Mr. 3 blocks it with another Candle Wall. However, the Candle Wall shatters, and Mr. 3 is struck, sending skidding across the ground. Nami tells Luffy to hurry and break the wax pumpkin, but Luffy refuses. The others beg him to stop fooling around, but Luffy says that he doesn't want to save them. This is the result of Miss Goldenweek's Colors Trap attack, as he is standing on a black design painted by her.

Usopp declares that he will beat some sense into Luffy, but before he can attack, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine show up in front of him. Mr. 5 says that Luffy's already fallen into a trap, so it's too late. Usopp spots the black design under Luffy's feet, and Miss Valentine replies that it's ordinary paint. Mr. 5 then aims an explosive kick at Usopp and Carue, sending both of them flying back. Usopp tells Carue that they have to retreat for the time being, so as Usopp and Carue flee into the jungle, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine chase after them. Carue, however, does not let Usopp onto his back. Meanwhile, Vivi declares that Miss Goldenweek is responsible for Luffy's behavior, and Miss Goldenweek explains that the design Luffy has stepped onto will make him betray his friends no matter how loyal he is. Vivi uses reverse psychology to try and get Luffy off of the black design, and he falls for it, stepping off of the design. He returns to a normal state of mind, then winds up for a punch. However, Miss Goldenweek paints a yellow design on his back, causing Luffy to laugh uncontrollably.

At that moment, Usopp, Carue, Mr. 5, and Miss Valentine run past, bowling Luffy over. It causes the paint on Luffy's back to smudge, and he returns to a normal state of mind again. He yells at Miss Goldenweek to stop, then winds up for another Gomu Gomu no Bazooka. However, his hands just hit a red design made by Miss Goldenweek, and Miss Goldenweek explains that Luffy's attacks will now only hit that design, like a bull drawn to a red mantle. Miss Goldenweek then paints a green design on Luffy's back, and he sits down to drink tea with her. Meanwhile, Usopp and Carue continue to flee from Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine, and Mr. 5 uses Nose Fancy Double Cannon. His attack misses, and so Usopp fires a Sure-Kill Lead Star at Mr. 5, but Mr. 5 tilts his head to avoid it. Mr. 5 then pulls out a gun, calling it a new model from South Blue, as it is rapid-fire and has bullets that are invisible when fired. Usopp thinks about the paint that had affected Luffy's behavior, and he returns to the scene of the Candle Service, seeing that Nami, Vivi, Zoro, and Brogy are all completely covered in wax now. He turns to see Luffy drinking tea with Vivi, lashing out at Luffy, and the episode draws to a close.
