Episode 54-"Foreboding of a New Adventure! the Puzzling Girl, Apis"

This episode begins with the Mugiwara Kaizoku-dan heading out of Loguetown amidst a rough storm. They are pointed to the grand line by a lighthouse. While sailing they speak on what they wish to accomplish on the sea. Luffy: "To be Pirate King." Sanji: "To find All Blue." Zoro: "To become the world's number one swordsman." Nami: "To draw a map of the world." Usopp: “To become a brave warrior of the sea."

Next we see a Marine ship sailing. This Marine ship, labeled 8, has a girl under there captivity. When one of the lower ranks attempts to feed her, she breaks for the door. After climbing the mast and breaking it she escapes to a loose rowboat near the ship. Afterward the Marine's report the escape to their boss, Nelson Royale, some bit fat guy. Here we learn that she may have the key to Ryuukotsu or Dragon bones. This is believed to be the key to eternal youth. After Nelson hears of these great travesties. He sends Erik, a haired henchman, to search for the girl along with a fleet of Marine men.

Afterwards we zoom back to the gang. And Usopp has found a block of birds gathered around an object close to the Going Merry. Sanji tells Luffy it is a school of fish and that he should catch them some lunch. Instead he catches the girl we just met. After exchanging a few words she finds out they are pirates and freaks out. Later that night after eating Sanji's cooking the crew gains the trust of this girl. In the morning the girl decided to make breakfast for them. However, her skills are not that of Sanji's, in fact, they plain down right suck. But the moving stomach known as Luffy eats it right up. The others do not share his opinion. Here we learn the girls name is Apis. They also get to hear why Apis was out on the ocean and where she is from, Gunkan Island. An island of whose silhouette is of a battleship. Gunkan is Battleship in Japanese. Since Apis is just a girl the gang agrees to take her back home even though it does take them off path just a bit.

Moments later a marine ship, guided by Erik, spots the Going Merry. And proceeds to attack the ship believe Apis is located on it. At this moment both Nami and Apis scene a strong wind coming and they get ready to run. However we learn from the marines that this wind is blowing toward the Calm Belt which is near impossible to escape. And to Zoro's observation (lmao) Nami and the others discovered the ship has stopped moving. And Nami then figures out they have entered the Calm belt and thus ends episode 54.

Mumbo230's Notes

This is the beginning of the first fully filler (anime-only) story arc of the series. The main character the Straw Hats meet for the story arc is Apis, a small girl. This is a common trend in the filler arcs, as most of them involve a child to more accustom the younger demographic.
