In-Depth Summary

The episode opens with Johnny telling Zoro, Sanji, Luffy, and Yosaku that Usopp is dead, killed by Nami. Luffy grabs Johnny by the collar and shakes him angrily, yelling at him that Nami would never do such a thing and that she's his friend. Nami then arrives and questions Luffy on this. Zoro draws his swords, furious at Nami, and he charges at her, but Sanji blocks his way, refusing to allow Zoro to attack a lady. Zoro and Sanji argue with each other, but Yosaku tells them to stop. Nami says that she only does things for money, and that Luffy and company should just head to the Grand Line and find One Piece. Luffy lies down on the ground, announcing that he is going to sleep and that he doesn't care what is happening to the island. Nami yells at Luffy, telling him to go ahead and die, and she leaves.

Meanwhile, the boy from Gosa Village pulls Nojiko along by the hand, exclaiming that the people of Gosa Village managed to make contact with the Marines, and now the Marines have come to take down Arlong's crew. Arlong's mermen report to him that a Marine ship is coming, but Arlong tells them to strike them a deal - if the Marines don't settle with two million berries, they will attack. The Marine ship fires a cannonball at Arlong Park, which lands right between Arlong's jaws. Arlong smashes the cannonball by clenching his jaws shut, and he orders the mermen to attack. Chu, however, suggests that just he, Kurobi, and Hatchi attack the Marine ship rather than sending the whole crew. Arlong agrees, and so the three set to work. Chu jumps on board the ship. The Marine captain introduces himself as Purin Purin of the 77th Fleet, but Chu knocks him down by shooting a bead of water. The Marines get ready to attack, but the ship is rocked as Kurobi tears the rudder off of it. Hatchi, underwater, then pushes a boulder around, causing a big whirlpool to form. The ship is swallowed by the whirlpool and destroyed. The villagers watch in horror, and Nojiko remarks that it is how real life is.

The three mermen return to Arlong Park, and Arlong congratulates them. They explain that it was made possible by Nami's map, which mapped out the currents around the island. Arlong notes that Nami is irreplaceable, but unfortunately she has almost put together the money to buy Cocoyashi Village so she will be leaving them. Meanwhile, Johnny and Yosaku tell Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro that they are leaving to save their own lives. Sanji and Zoro stay by Luffy, who is lying on the ground. Sanji wonders why Nami was crying in her heart, and Zoro replies that it was guilt for killing Usopp, but Sanji doesn't believe that Usopp is actually dead. Meanwhile, Usopp runs along the pathway with a cloak on, now realizing that Nami stabbed the back of her hand rather than stabbing him, and if not for what she did Arlong would have killed him. Just as Zoro and Sanji erupt into a fight, Usopp is caught between them and struck by both sides. Luffy gets up and shakes Usopp, asking him if Nami did this to him.

Meanwhile, Nojiko returns to her house, and there she sees Nami sitting by the table. Nami insists that there is nothing wrong, but Nojiko tells her about meeting with Usopp and how they said she enjoyed her time with them. Nami reminsces about her times aboard the Going Merry, when she played cards with Luffy and Usopp, when there was a leak on the ship, and so on. She recalls much of the battle against Kuro at Syrup Village, and explains that for a moment she forgot her mission and she wished she could stay with the Straw Hats forever. Back on the road, Usopp explains to Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro exactly what Nami did. Nojiko then approaches them, and offers to tell them about Nami's sad past. Luffy says he doesn't want to hear it, though, and he takes off. The others sit down to listen to Nojiko's story. Meanwhile, Nezumi travels with the 16th Marine fleet, and he arrives at Cocoyashi Village, demanding of Genzo to see Nami. Back on the road, Nojiko explains that her story begins eight years ago, about a woman named Bellemere as the episode draws to a close.
