In-Depth Summary
The episode begins with Luffy and Krieg at another standoff, as Luffy declares that Krieg's Great Battle Spear's power has been halved. Krieg insists that a bomb-on-a-stick will still be enough to finish Luffy, and he takes a swing at Luffy with it. Luffy leaps into the air, grabs a chunk of the mast and throws it down at Krieg, but Krieg uses a flamethrower on his wrist to burn it up before it makes contact. Luffy then uses Gomu Gomu no Gatling Gun, pounding Krieg in the chest, but Krieg declares that Luffy's punches can't break through his armor. Luffy lands and pounds Krieg right in the stomach, but Krieg swats him away with his spear. Krieg takes his position atop the mast, looking down at Luffy, as Luffy gets up and makes one final charge up the mast toward his opponent. As Luffy runs up, he uses Gomu Gomu no Bazooka, but before he can Krieg swings his spear, causing another explosion. Luffy bursts through the smoke and uses his attack to pound Krieg in the chest, sending him flying into the air.
As Krieg falls, his armor begins to crack, and he hurls several small explosives into the water, blowing apart the remains of his ship. Luffy is caught in the explosion, but he leaps up from the smoke, stretching out his arms and using Gomu Gomu no Bazooka once again to pound Krieg in midair. Krieg's armor shatters, and as he plummets everyone celebrates, as he has finally been defeated. Krieg opens his eyes, though, and hurls out a great iron net, catching Luffy with it. As he is about to heave the net into the water, Luffy stretches his arms and legs outside of the net and coils his legs up, wrapping his feet around Don Krieg's neck. He begins to untwirl them, spinning Krieg rapidly, and swinging around in midair he uses Gomu Gomu no Sledgehammer to drive Krieg into the deck. Upon impact, Krieg is finally knocked out, defeated. Luffy falls into the water in the iron net as the cooks celebrate, and the pirates are left flabbergasted over the lost of their captain.
Immediately, Gin jolts awake, and refuses to believe that Don Krieg has lost. Zeff then tells Sanji to go rescue Luffy, since Luffy ate a Devil Fruit and cannot swim. Sanji is angry that Zeff didn't tell him earlier and immediately kicks off his shoes, leaping into the sea. As he dives down and tries to get Luffy out of the net, he remembers when Luffy became stabbed full of spears and when Zoro was slashed by Mihawk. He realizes why the two fight so hard for their ambitions, and as he finally gets Luffy out of the net and begins to swim for the surface, many fish swim by, remembering Sanji of his own ambition, finding All Blue. Back on the deck, Gin still doesn't believe that Krieg lost, and as Sanji pulls Luffy onto the deck, Sanji struggles to check of Luffy is still alive, only to find that Luffy is actually asleep. Krieg suddenly stands up and starts thrashing about, not in a state of consciousness. Gin punches him in the gut, knocking Krieg out cold, and so slings him over his shoulder.
Gin turns to Sanji and tells him that he has decided he will go to the Grand Line, picking up Krieg's ambition. He says that he may only have a few hours left to live, and wants to spend them the way he wants to. Sanji orders Patti and Carne to give them the supply ship, and so all of the Krieg pirates are piled into the boat, barely staying afloat. Gin climbs on last and bids farewell to Baratie and Sanji, and so the ship sails off toward the Grand Line. The scene shifts to Nami in the Going Merry, and there she thinks of how the Straw Hats are good people, wondering if they'll let her join again when they meet each other once more. She then says she wants to be free, and calls Bellemere's name as the episode ends.
Mumbo230's Notes
And so Don Krieg finally meets his demise in this very exciting episode. Gin's farewell at the end is especially touching. Luffy also demonstrates that great sleeping ability of his.
