Episode 201: The Squadron of Burning Souls Attacks! Battle on the Bridge!
The episode begins with Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp (The Four) running in search of the Going Merry. Shepherd is left under the rubble, and when he tries to escape, three Marines subdue him, still calling him Condoriano. The Four are then surrounded by Marines, and Luffy gets anxious to fight, ready to challenge Jonathan's claim that escape is impossible. Luffy takes out one unit and they continue. Drake pursues them. Jonathan watches as a unit is punched off a cliff. He then spots Luffy, and they have a battle of words. Meanwhile, Jonathan's assistant calls for firing on the central tower. A cannon is fired on The Four, but they escape. The assistant then readies an ambush, but Jonathan withdraws all troops instead, claiming that unorthodox strategies should be employed instead. He then orders for the troops to be stationed at Dock 88, by the Going Merry.
Drake still chases The Four when Jonathan calls him and tells him to station his men at Dock 88. Jonathan then discusses his strategy with the assistant. When told that Drake needs time to get to Dock 88, Jonathan assigns Unit 55, a singsong yet mighty unit, to buy Drake time for the ambush. The alarms sound, and Kobato asks about it. A Marine explains that the Straw Hats have escaped and some are still in the base. Chopper and Nami hear this, and they conclude that they must head to the docks, even without an escape plan. When Marines ask to search the room, Kobato locks them out and storms toward Nami and Chopper. As they apologize for being pirates, she tells them to escape, as there are pirates in the base. Chopper then reiterates that they're the pirates, and when Nami asks where the docks are, Kobato screams "PIRATES!!" and faints. When the Marines break in, the see Kobato on the floor and Nami bound and gagged. Chopper is hiding in a patient's bed. Nami then says that the pirates escaped through the ducts. Kobato comes to, but Nami covers her mouth before she screams. Chopper appears, and as they leave, Kobato offers to take them to the docks as repayment for helping her become a better doctor.
Meanwhile, The Four sneak about the base, trying to head to the Going Merry. Usopp knows where the ship is, and they see an unguarded bridge they can cross to get to the ship. Zoro points out that it seems the Marines want them to go that way. Nonetheless, the four minus Usopp eagerly head towards the ship and Usopp follows affrightedly.
Kobato takes Nami and Chopper to the ship, reasoning that they must be at Dock 88. When asked why it's there, she answers that it's the only place to hold a ship, plus her dad works there. At the same time, The Four cross the deserted bridge. Suddenly, Unit 55 pops out of their hiding places and ambushes The Four. They then sing their battle hymn. Usopp tries to run back, but he finds that they've surrounded the bridge. Everyone readies himself for battle, and they fight. Zoro starts punching people, and Luffy uses a Gomu Gomu no Gatling Gun to knock off some Marines. Usopp runs away and cheers as Zoro punches some more Marines. One Marine tricks Luffy with a distance punch (as others pile on top of him) and as Sanji kicks some Marines around, he is caught by some fat Marines. As Usopp yells from a high beam, a Marine attacks him with a sword, but Usopp pulls out the Impact Dial and defends himself with it. Another Marine comes at him with an axe, but to no avail. Zoro is blindsided, derided, and headbutted by a brutish Marine. Sanji escapes but sees a plethora of Marines on both sides. In front, however, Luffy throws off the Marine pile and Gomu Gomu no Bazooka's his way through a slew of Marines. A few at the end try to counterattack at the end of the Bazooka, but as they grab Luffy, he uses a Gomu Gomu no Ono (Axe) and breaks the bridge. Everyone plunges to the water below.
The Four make it to a shore, and Usopp points them towards the ship. Concurrently, Jonathan's assistant reports the battle outcome to Jonathan. Jonathan is pleased with the delay, which allowed Drake to set up at Dock 88. The Four head straight to Dock 88, and they see a battalion of Marines pointing guns at them. Kobato shows up there with Nami and Chopper, and as Sanji swoons at Nurse Nami, she sees Luffy subdued in a kairouseki net, and the episode ends.
