Episode 142: Frantic Struggle! Whetton's Plans and the Rainbow Tower
The episode begins with Pukau and Longo preparing to leave the Mist, and as they pass, Ian finally gets Longo to free him. Meanwhile, Lapanui still distrusts Henzo for becoming Whetton's dog. Lapanui then reveals that it's only been a few days in the mist. Usopp vouches for Henzo and explains the sacrifices he made in the past 50 years to rescue his friends. Henzo then tells Lapanui to punch him, but he can't punch an elderly Henzo. Just as they're about to make up, Luffy rocket's himself Lapanui away further into the Mist, disappearing from sight.
Meanwhile, the Sea King attacks Ruluka, and Nami escapes on a rowboat. Sanji uselessly asks Whetton to help, while Phillip then tells Nami to use Henzo's emergency device, which is a lifeline. However, at that moment, the Sea King rears its mighty head to strike when suddenly, Major Pasqua reappears in a corner and flicks a coin at the Sea King, sending it to a watery grave. Pasqua then disappears as quickly as he appeared. Nami then ties one end of the lifeline to her Clim Tact, throws it at Chopper, and enters the Mist. Whetton lets her go but changes into a flame suit and fires upon Sanji and Chopper.
Meanwhile, Luffy and Lapanui, lost in the Mist, run to return to their friends. Lapanui begins to lose hope, and then he tells of how his father, a Marine Officer, disappeared in the Mist. Luffy resumes searching, and simultaneously, his crew searches for him as well. Henzo conjectures that the two are in the end of the Mist, and as Robin surveys further, Nami appears with treasure, just in time to hear that Luffy has disappeared. Nami aims to leave, but Ian shows up with Longo as a hostage. He threatens to kill him if Nami doesn't allow him to take the lifeline, and as she refuses, Isoka points a knife at her throat. Isoka enters the rowboat with Ian and Longo, but they double-cross Ian. Robin tries to help, but Ian escapes. In Ruluka, Chopper and Sanji keep fighting, but they ultimately fail to keep the lifeline away from Whetton. They pull the line, but Ian returns instead of Nami.
In the Mist, Henzo states that Whetton will enter the Mist to get the treasure, as Ian tells him more about it. As Luffy and Lapanui try escaping, Lapanui collapses and flashes back to when his friends tried to escape the Mist. Lapanui and Luffy then see a light and run to it. In Ruluka, Whetton connects the Rainbow Mist to the outside world forever using Rainbow Tower. In doing so, he sends his men to collect the treasure within, but he also frees Luffy and Lapanui from the Mist.
