Short Summary
As the Going Merry continues along, the Straw Hats come upon a Marine ship, and off of the Marine ship comes a young chef named Tajiyo. Sanji and Luffy bring Tajiyo back onto the Marine ship, as he was supposed to cook for all of the Marine captains. As Tajiyo works hard on his recipe to fix it, Sanji gives him some subtle hints to help him out. The dinner for the captains turns out to be a success.
In-Depth Summary
The episode begins with Sanji in the kitchen, cooking up something delicious. On the deck, Usopp spots several Marine ships coming toward them through the fog, and Robin suggests that they continue moving forward, since the Marines won't be able to see them through the heavy fog. The Going Merry heads past the huge Marine ships, but as it does Sanji spots a kid in a chef's outfit with red hair and glasses standing on the edge of the Marine deck, with a pot at his side. The kid loses his footing and falls, and Robin uses her Hana Hana power to catch him.
The kid awakes to find himself in the cabin of the Going Merry, with all of the Straw Hats standing around him. Sanji offers the kid a bowl of soup, but the kid refuses to take food from pirates, though he decides to eat it upon seeing the quality of the soup and says that Sanji is wasting his time being on a poor little pirate ship, angering Luffy and Usopp. The kid introduces himself as Tajiyo and tells of what happened. He was working on curry in the kitchen when he dropped the pot and spilled it all over the floor, and his superior tells him to make more The problem is, Tajiyo has to cook curry for a large group of Marine captains very soon.
Sanji says that Tajiyo should just go back to the chef and apologize, but Tajiyo refuses. He then mentions All Blue and how he insists that it exists. This catches Sanji's attention, and he decides that he will take Tajiyo back to the Marine ship. Luffy uses Gomu Gomu no Tomozuna to catapult them over to the Marine ship. Sanji tells Luffy to stay there while he and Tajiyo head to the kitchen. The two arrive at the kitchen and Sanji says that when he was still at Baratie, Zeff never taught him anything - he only made him wash dishes and yelled at him. Sanji then says that one cannot teach cooking, and Tajiyo starts his work.
Tajiyo starts by grabbing some ready-made spice, but remembers when he saw the chef getting mad at one of the cooks for trying this, saying that doing so will cause it to lose its aroma. So Taijyo grinds up the spices manually. Tajiyo moves onto working with the meat. He starts to carve it as Sanji tastes the earlier curry, noticing that the taste of the meat is through all of the curry rather than staying in just the meat itself. Right before Tajiyo is about to cook the meat, Sanji tells him that food isn't meant to be made in a hurry. This reminds Tajiyo of what the chef once said, and he takes more time preparing the meat with various ingredients instead. He continues work on the curry as he dices up the onions and puts them in a pan, starting to fry them, when Sanji walks up and lights his cigarette with the flame. Tajiyo is horrified, and Sanji says that he singed his hair as he walks away. This reminds Tajiyo of another thing the chef once said, about stirring the onions and lowering the heat so they are not burnt.
After tasting the finished curry, Tajiyo finds that it has no taste. Sanji then grabs an apple and takes a bite, leaving. Tajiyo notices this and is reminded that apples are the secret ingredient, so he incorporates this into the curry. After finishing the curry, Tajiyo comes out of the kitchen and thanks Sanji, saying how Sanji was doing things as if he was trying to be annoying, but he was actually helping Tajiyo out. Luffy then comes running up to them, and is being chased by Marine soldiers. Sanji tells Tajiyo that he thinks All Blue exists too, and Luffy uses Gomu Gomu no Tomozuna to propel him and Sanji back over to the Going Merry. Later, Tajiyo’s curry is presented to the Marine captains and they love it, of course, and Tajiyo vows to become an even greater chef than Sanji as the episode draws to a close.
