In-Depth Summary

The episode opens with Nami standing at the front of the ship, holding a pair of binoculars. Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper are fishing together, and Chopper catches a nice fish, but the one Usopp catches is very tiny. Sanji then brings out a tropical drink for Nami for silky skin, making Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper angry that they didn’t get anything. At that moment, there is a heavy tugging on Luffy's line. He pulls it in, and it turns out to be a giant snail-shaped submarine. It opens, and a peculiar man in an orange suit stands up. He introduces himself as Rice-Rice, coming from the Den Den Mushi Mail Order Service. The Straw Hats gather around as Rice-Rice explains that he was delivering goods at sea when he came into a storm. He thanks the Straw Hats for saving his life and offers them a huge stack of catalogues.

The Straw Hats look at several of the items Rice-Rice has to offer, including the Buru-Buru Blade and the Ab-Ab Slider. As Rice-Rice continues to rant, Nami asks him if he has any paper that won't be ruined by the sun or the sea air. Rice-Rice brings out the Thousand-Year Paper, claiming it can last through anything. Nami begins to haggle the price but then Sanji says that he will pay for the paper, to everyone's shock, and he ties up Luffy, saying that if Rice-Rice hands Luffy over to the Marines, he'll get more than enough money to cover everything. This causes Rice-Rice to realize he is on a pirate ship and so he jumps back into his submarine and flees, leaving his goods behind.

With her new paper, Nami tells the others that she will be working and doesn't want any of them to bother her as she works. Sanji takes it upon himself to keep the others from bothering her. Nami then heads into the cabin, sets down her maps, and starts drawing a map of the beginning of the Grand Line. She recalls her dream, that she wants her own map of the world. While Nami is working, Sanji tells the others to clean up the ship while Nami is busy. Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper get to work at Sanji’s orders, but Sanji and Zoro get into an argument which Nami swiftly breaks up with her fists. Nami returns to her work, and as she continues to draw, she remembers a time from her past, when she is sitting alone, watching the sunset, as Bellemere walks up to her, and Nami asks what's beyond the sea, and Bellemere replies that she doesn't know. Even though she was a Marine, she explains that the sea is a big place - too much to see. Nami then vows that she will see what is beyond the sea, and that she will make a complete world map.

Back in the present, Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper are fooling around as they’re cleaning. Nami comes out angrily because of the racket. As Usopp and Luffy are fooling around, however, Usopp accidentally bumps Luffy off of the front of the ship, causing him to fall toward the water. Luffy saves himself using Gomu Gomu no Bungee, but ends up catapulting himself right into the cabin, causing ink to spill all over Nami's map and to ruin it. Nami is livid, as her map is one of a kind, and she forces them out, saying that she'll fine them 100,000 berries if they don't leave. This rattles Chopper somewhat.

Later, everyone on the deck is asleep. Chopper then wakes up and senses rain, seeing the clouds begin to darken. He yells at the others to wake up, but has no luck. When Chopper is about to go into the cabin to get Nami, he remembers her threat and decides not to. At this time, though, Nami has completed her map, and she hangs it up and steps out of the cabin to see the cyclone Nami gets everyone to work together to steer the Going Merry away from the storm. They do so, and soon they find themselves with sunny skies again. Nami then goes back to continue her work with maps, as the one she finished is only the first. The other Straw Hats take command of steering the ship, and so they sail off through the Grand Line.
